I have had a really bad day. We all have them the: I accidently ran over the dog, lost my job, failed my LSAT, started that war kind of a day. Today is that day. It has been one of the worst in a while but, if you sit there and just let all the bad stuff in you’re done. You snuffed it. If you instead just look around take a deep breath you’ll see it’ll all be alright. You feel that sensation inside of you that makes your heart go thump. It gives you a hand up when your down. Hope. Hope lies in faith, faith lies in love. Love is what’s it all boils down too. I know that at the moment I have just vexed and confused some of my readers (not that they aren’t confused at reading my posts all the time, sorry) but, let me try to explain myself.
Let’s talk about Hope. Hope is defined in the dictionary as:
- To wish for something with expectation of its fulfillment.
- Archaic. To have confidence; trust.
1. To wish for something and having an expectancy to see that wish happen. To trust in something. This is hope, when all is lost we have an presentiment that something will happen. Hope is a human trait to think that its not the end, to fight back. For a Christian we have something different instead of just hope we have faith.
Faith is explained in Hebrews 11:1-3 this way:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”
Faith goes beyond hope, faith is what hope is made of we look for the things that are not here. As Christians we believe strongly in faith such as, our Salvation, healings, casting out of demons, Prayer. By faith we understand all things, the creation of exsistence. In essence, that is what being a Christian is all about hope and faith but, we are going to go further. Hope leads to faith, faith leads to love.
Love. The greatest of all three, it takes hope and faith. Paul writes on faith, hope and love in Corinthians. This passage I believe explains love the best:
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing. Love suffers long and does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there arethere is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part tongues, they will cease; whether and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
-1 Corinthians 13
Love is putting yourself on the line, ready to make yourself completely vunerable. This is a hard thing whether it is in a relationship between a man and a woman or human and Almighty God. It takes a great ammount of hope and from hope we produce faith and the product of all three of these things is love. Love. The ultimate gift we as humans are offered is the greatest love offering of all time Salvation but, salvation came at a price.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17
So throughout all of this what I am trying to say is have hope. If your hope is in Christ you have the other two: faith and love. So whatever crappy day you are going through have faith my friend we will make it through.
Faith.
Hope.
Love.
